Just blocks from the region's two main thoroughfares, Royal Oak is a city in its prime. Since the completion of I-696 in 1989, the community has become a hub for commerce, dining and entertainment. It is an increasing popular place to live, work, and play. An average weekend night brings a flood of roughly 20,000 visitors. Like many urban centers, Royal Oak values diversity. Its composition is truly eclectic, representing a wide range of nationalities, lifestyles, and values.

For the past 9 years Genesis has been known as the church that “moves”.  We have been housed for extended periods of time at 8 different locations.  We have met in 10 different facilities and have had 4 different offices in Royal Oak.   We’ve met in Auditoriums, a cafetorium, a collaborative center, a night club, an art school, a gymnasium, a church building, and a comedy club for a day.  We’ve been snowed out, locked out, and kicked out of a few locations.  But one thing has been consistent: God’s faithfulness is everlasting!

At the beginning of 2010 both First Baptist Church of Royal Oak and Genesis the Church joyfully came together as one body.  This is truly a work of God.  During this transition many questions were answered, but the most important question considered was, “who are we going to be?”  And this is who we, the people, will be: a people who proclaim the praise of God, who are a vehicle of His blessing to others, and a people who are being conformed into the likeness of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Starting January 1, 2010, Genesis will be located at 309 N. Main Street in Royal Oak. The facilities at 309 N. Main Street are not perfect, and initially little work will be done to the building.  Major renovations will be reserved until early to mid 2010 for the space to be up to date on codes, our values, and needs.  The space may not be ideal for some time, but by our love for each other, may we all feel at home.  As we have said all along, our greatest want is not a building but to be a people that love God and love each other.

“Epicenter” was a campaign started at Genesis in 2004 to raise funds to purchase or renovate a permanent facility.  The current Epicenter funds will be used for renovations at 309 N. Main.
